A woman was killed and several people were injured when her car crashed with a mini-bus Saturday

Louisiana State Police identified the victim as 34-year-old Brittany M. Delpit.

METAIRIE, La. — A fatal crash on I-10 West Saturday morning left one woman dead and several injured.

Louisiana State Police said the crash happened around 11 a.m. near the Causeway Boulevard exit and identified the victim as 34-year-old Brittany M. Delpit.

Troopers said Delpit was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt and when she entered the exit lane, she lost control of the car and hit a crash attenuator. The impact caused Delpit's car to spin across the westbound lanes of I-10.

At the same time, a 2020 Ford Eldorado mini-bus carrying 17 passengers was traveling west on I-10 and crashed into the Chevrolet.

State police said Delpit was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was dead on the scene.

Several passengers riding the mini-bus were taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries sustained from the accident.

The crash lead to the closure of I-10 West as law enforcement responded to the crash.

In a release law enforcement said two vehicles had been involved in the accident.

"The westbound lanes of I-10 at Milepost 229 are currently closed as a result of a fatality crash involving two vehicles," Louisiana State Police said Saturday afternoon. "To ensure the safety of all motorists, traffic is being redirected off of I-10 and onto Causeway Boulevard."

The Jefferson Parish government sent out a release about the crash at 11:33 a.m., adding that the fire department was at the scene.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday the lanes were back open.

The crash is under investigation and a toxicology sample was collected.
