NEW ORLEANS — Both sides of the Green Bridge have been scheduled to close from Friday night to Monday morning as the Louisiana Department of Transportation continues scheduled roadwork, with more closures scheduled for May.

The bridge, also known as the Paris Road Bridge, connects New Orleans East with Chalmette. Its four lanes have been scheduled to close from 8 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday, the first of six full-weekend closures planned for the year-long construction effort.

"Motorists wanting to travel northbound on LA 47 to I-510 will be detoured to LA 39,  Elysian Fields, I-10, and back to I-510." DOTD said earlier this month. "Motorists wanting to travel southbound on I-510 to LA 47 will be detoured to I-10, Elysian Fields, LA 39, and back to LA 47."

The next closure has been scheduled from Fri. May 3 to Mon. May 6.

DOTD has estimated that their crews would finish construction of the bridge by Spring 2025.

The department said the funding for the rebuild came from the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill signed by President Joe Biden in November 2021.

In March, WWL Louisiana's Eleanor Tabone reported on construction efforts on New Orleans area bridges.
