Report: State Police staffing up for Troop Nola deployment in New Orleans

“We’re going to bring as much of a law enforcement presence into this city as necessary to keep all of this city safe,” Landry said in November.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans will soon see Louisiana State Police troopers policing the city. The newly formed Troop Nola contingent is part of Governor Jeff Landry’s promise to help the city and the under-powered NOPD with policing, according to a report by the Times-Picayune.

According to LSP, the troop is staffing up and equipping a station in the city for a planned March deployment.

Lt. Melissa Matey, a State Police spokesperson, said told The Times-Picayune that the agency “is finalizing operational and staffing plans for the city of New Orleans and Orleans Parish.”

When the deployment was announced in early January, Capt. Donovan Archote and Lt. Valentine Emery will lead Troop Nola. Capt. Archote will serve as Command Inspector, and Lt. Emery as Acting Captain.

Archote is no stranger to policing in the New Orleans area, he led Troop B in Kenner.

The deployment is part of Governor Landry’s campaign promise.

“We’re going to bring as much of a law enforcement presence into this city as necessary to keep all of this city safe,” Landry said in November when announcing his plan to deploy troopers in New Orleans. “We’re committed to doing that.”
