St. Tammany deputies seize $367,000 hidden in car after stop

On Saturday, Dec. 1, the sheriff's office said it made a traffic stop on a vehicle and upon a search with a K-9 named Echo, found $367,680 cash and a loaded gun inside the vehicle.

ST. TAMMANY – A car driven by a Mexican resident was carrying just over $367,000 in cash hidden in a floor compartment that was apparently targeted for a drug transaction, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Saturday, Dec. 1, the sheriff’s office said it made a traffic stop on a vehicle and upon a search with a K-9 named Echo, found $367,680 and a loaded gun inside the vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver, Jose Isabel Brito Jimenes, a resident of Mexico, said he was traveling from Houston and had no knowledge of the hidden currency.

A second vehicle and other people were located nearby and said to be related to the suspected planned transaction of money for drugs.

The following individuals were booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for L.R.S. 40:979 Attempt and Conspiracy to distribute or with intent to distribute Schedule 1 Narcotics :

Jose Isabel Brito Jimenes (DOB 04/07/1982, Mexico)

Jose Guadalupe Capacha (DOB 02/13/1978, Dallas, TX)

Herschel Lamar Cain II (DOB 07/04/1986, Atlanta, GA)

Laytoya Marie Cox (DOB 04/06/1984, Snellville, GA)

Jimenes was also issued traffic citations for L.R.S. 32:104B Failure to Use a Turn Signal and L.R.S. 32:52 No Driver’s License.
