Hammond's Options Weaving Studio empowers those with disabilities

In this week's Access Code, we venture to Hammond (70401) to check out one business that helps people with disabilities weave and sell their products.

HAMMOND, La. — Options Weaving Studio in Hammond started in 2012 as an enrichment activity for people with disabilities, but has grown into a career for many of these talented artists.

Three years later, the studio added a shop where you can purchase their products such as woven purses, rugs, scarfs and wine bags.

Watch more below on the program founded by Karen Pfeifer as a way to give back to the community that has embraced her, her husband Horst and their restaurant Middendorf's.

"You really have to find something you love to really jump in and give your time, so I knew of this program in Germany that is a weaving studio and they weave products and sell products to the public," Pfeifer said. "I'm a weaver and I knew this was something I could do."
