NEW ORLEANS — Update: The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim as 36-year-old Oilber Ignacio Andino.
The New Orleans Police Department released new details on the deceased man found fatally shot in New Orleans East on Friday.
According to the latest info from the NOPD, the man was found dead holding a 3-year-old boy in the 14,000 block of Michoud Boulevard after police said he was seen flagging down a passing motorist while injured at about 11:14 a.m.
The NOPD said the young child appeared to be unharmed and was turned over to the Department of Children and Family Services which is trying to find the child's relatives.
Police said the initial call was received at 10:52 a.m.
Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead on scene.
