Man wanted for fatal Mother's Day shooting, police say

He is wanted for second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

The New Orleans Police Department is searching for a man believed to be responsible for a shooting that left one man dead and a woman injured on Mother’s Day, police say.

NOPD obtained an arrest warrant Tuesday for 21-year-old Donnell Brown III for the shooting death of 35-year-old Herbert Foster. The shooting took place around 5 p.m. when officers were working detail near the 1400 block of Lafreniere Street where a Mother’s Day second line was finishing up.

Gunshots were heard and, shortly after, officers found man, later identified as Herbert, in the middle of the street suffering from gunshot wounds, according to police. Herbert was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also found a woman with a minor graze wound to her leg. She was treated at an area hospital.

According to NOPD, investigators identified Brown as the suspect in the incident. He is wanted for second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
