2 men dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Harvey, the third incident within a week

This latest incident is the third within a week on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, the second incident in Harvey alone.

HARVEY, La. — Two men are dead in Harvey in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports that around 10:45 pm on Tuesday, his deputies were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 2200 block of Hampton Drive.

When the deputies arrived, they found two unresponsive adult males inside a home.

Both were suffering from at least one gunshot wound and were pronounced dead on the scene.

“Our preliminary investigation leads our investigators to believe that one of the men shot the other before taking his own life,” JPSO spokesperson Sergeant Brandon Veal says.

Veal says the identities of both men are being withheld until the next of kin can be notified. The investigation is ongoing.

This latest incident is the third within a week on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, the second incident in Harvey alone.

Last Thursday, a family of four which included, 43-year-old Tim Ragas, 45-year-old Joanna Ragas, her 20-year-old son Eric Thorneblom and their special needs son, 13-year-old Timothy Ragas were all found dead in their Harvey home after 911 dispatchers received a call from a man who left a message saying, “We can’t continue to live like this,” and, “You’ll find four bodies when you get here.”

Prior to that incident, last Wednesday, two men were found dead inside a Marrero home by deputies responding to a 911 call. Investigators believe that one of the men shot the other before taking his own life.
