Boil advisory lifted for parts of New Orleans East

There is one address still under the precautionary boil water advisory: Regency Park Town Homes at 7300 Downman Rd.

NEW ORLEANS — The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans has canceled the boil water advisory for parts of New Orleans East.

The boil advisory was canceled for the following areas:

  • Martin Dr (Morrison Rd to Hayne Blvd)
  • Hayne Blvd (Martin Dr to Intracoastal Waterway)
  • Intracoastal Waterway (Hayne Blvd to Morrison Rd)
  • Morrison Rd-Lakeside Only (Intracoastal Waterway to Martin Dr)

On Tuesday morning, water pressures in the area fell below 20 pounds per square inch (psi) due to the break near Downman Road and Haynes Boulevard.

There is one address still under the precautionary boil water advisory: Regency Park Town Homes at 7300 Downman Rd.

SWBNO said testing water quality samples is underway, which may take up to 24 hours to achieve results and the boil advisory remains in effect.

Customers in other areas of the city are not affected and do not need to boil their water.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to use bottled or boiled tap water to drink, cook, clean food or brush teeth until further notice. Residents with compromised immune systems should also use safe water to wash hands, shower or bathe.

SWBNO, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), explained it issues boil water advisories out of an abundance of caution for areas where water pressure drops below 20 psi. The agency said the concern is that a pressure drop inside a water pipe could allow bacteriological contaminants to enter.

Continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during a boil water advisory by washing your hands often with boiled or bottled water.
