Cheap Trick to perform at Family Gras -- weather permitting

Cheap Trick slated to start performing at 2:15 p.m. after Amy Grant, but the rock band who topped the charts during the 1970s could get rained out Saturday.

Cheap Trick may have to surrender to this weekend's rain forecast, according to a Friday night release from the Jefferson Parish government.

While the band was still slated to go on stage at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, the Jefferson Parish government added an asterisk warning that the Cheap Trick concert would only happen, "weather permitting."

It's unclear whether the rock group. who hit a major stride in 1979 when they had four number one hits, would be rescheduled if they got rained out on Saturday.

WWL Louisiana Meteorologist and Die-Hard Classic Rock Fan Alexa Trischler said there will be heavy rain throughout southeast Louisiana on Saturday afternoon.

"One to three inches of rain is expected and some isolated street flooding is possible," Trischler said on Saturday morning.

Some food vendors, like Ariana Giambrone, remained optimistic about the forecast though, telling WWL Louisiana, "We're no strangers to rainy weather, last two Family Gras there has been a good bit of rain, and I will say, rain or shine we're here to serve you."

Cheap Trick will follow Christian crossover singer Amy Grant, whose performance at 12:30 p.m. is still set to run on time and on schedule. No official changes have yet been made to the Cheap Trick concert either.

The festival takes place on the 3300 block of Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie, nearby the Lakeview Shopping Center.
