Fighting couple arrested after killing pedestrian with car along Gulfport beach, police say

The victim, later identified as 25-year-old D'ante Terrel Burks, was on the boardwalk at the time he was hit.

GULFPORT, Mississippi — The Gulfport Police Department arrested a local couple who allegedly drove their car off the road and fatally struck a pedestrian along the beach on Monday afternoon.

According to the police, 24-year-old Bryan Flores Otiz and 26-year-old Wandaliz Rosario were engaged in a physical altercation inside the vehicle when Ortiz lost control of the vehicle along U.S. Highway 90 and veered off the road before striking the victim and overturning.

Officers responded to the incident at 12:55 p.m. and found the victim later identified as 25-year-old D'ante Terrel Burks, who was on the boardwalk at the time he was hit.

Burks was transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said both Ortiz and Rosario were transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility to be held in place of their $200,000 bond.

Both have been charged with one count of manslaughter each.
