METAIRIE, La. — A 57-year-old Metairie woman was killed when she apparently lost control of her car while going over railroad tracks and then struck a utility pole.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said the woman's Toyota Avalon then flipped on its side and traveled a short distance before coming to rest on the levee.
A spokesman said no other vehicles were involved.
The crash occurred Sunday night at about 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Pope Street and Monticello Avenue.
Sheriff Joe Lopinto said the victim suffered numerous internal injuries. Toxicology tests are pending and the victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.
