NEW ORLEANS — NOPD issued four citations for the driver who apparently drove his car through a red light into another car and then into the Joy Theater on Canal Street on Thursday night.

"Both drivers reportedly complained of injury, but both refused medical treatment," NOPD said on Friday morning.

NOPD said they first responded to the crash at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox SUV was cited by police for careless operation of a vehicle, driving without insurance, without registration and ignoring a traffic signal.

"Officers learned that the Equinox was traveling in the northbound right lane on Canal Street when the driver is believed to have disregarded a red traffic light at the intersection with Basin Street," NOPD said Friday morning. "The Equinox then struck a second vehicle before leaving the roadway and striking the building."

WWL Louisiana photographer Chris Russell captured photos of the crash Thursday night.
