NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department announced on Tuesday that its Traffic Division will conduct an upcoming sobriety checkpoint in Orleans Parish this week.

While no location was given, the NOPD did confirm that the checkpoint will operate between the hours of 9 p.m. on Thursday and 5  a.m. on Friday.

The NOPD said motorists will experience minimal delays and should have proof of insurance, driver’s license, etc., if requested.

In Louisiana, any driver with a blood-alcohol concentration above .08 percent is considered intoxicated under the law.

Motorists should be aware that driving under the influence is punishable by fines and possible jail time.
