Motorcyclist dies after crashing into 18-wheeler in Tangipahoa Parish

Police say the crash claimed the life of 39-year-old Joseph Boggs Jr. of Covington.

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — The Louisiana State Police says a man died in a two-vehicle crash in Tangipahoa Parish on Sunday. 

Troopers say 39-year-old Joseph Boggs Jr. of Covington crashed a motorcycle into an 18-wheeler on Interstate 12 near LA Hwy 445.

Boggs was riding in the right lane of Interstate 12, and the 18-wheeler was driving westbound in the right lane of Interstate 12 ahead of the motorcycle. 

Boggs was wearing DOT approved helmet, but he suffered severe injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he died. 

Another person was on the motorcycle. Police said they were also wearing a helmet. That person suffered serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital. 

The driver of the 18-wheeler was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers for analysis, according to State Police. 

Investigators believe speed is a factor in this crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
