SLIDELL, La. — Authorities say one person is in custody and another is wanted following a string of car thefts at gas stations along Interstate 10.

The Slidell Police Department said 20-year-old Frederick Price of Slidell was linked to ten different vehicle thefts from local gas stations and gyms in the city. Detectives have also identified 21-year-old Daurance McClendon as Price's accomplice. He is wanted on a charge of theft of a motor vehicle.

The police department said Price and McClendon "preyed on people at local gas stations" with the intent of stealing their cars when the victims were distracted or inside the stores.

In one incident on Nov. 26 at a Circle K location on Voters Road, a vehicle owner fired several shots at suspects who stole his car. The car was later found abandoned near Oak Harbor Boulevard.

“This should serve as another message to criminals that we will always identify and catch you. We will stop at nothing to keep our citizens safe and maintain our quality of life in this city," Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said.

Police believe McClendon is in the Slidell or New Orleans area. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Slidell Police at 985-643-3131 or Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111.
