ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A St. Tammany Parish firefighter was released from the hospital 10 days after he was seriously injured in a crash in a firetruck.

The St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District No. 7 broke the news on its Facebook page on Thursday.

"We know he's still not done with the process as he has been assigned a couple months of physical therapy, but we are blessed to hear he will make a full recovery," the announcement said.

Last month, the district said one of its firefighters was seriously injured in a crash on Highway 435 near Mossy Hill Road in Abita Springs. Louisiana State Police say the firetruck left the roadway at around 45 mph, causing the driver to over-correct, turning the truck on its side. The vehicle then slid across the highway before striking a tree with the cab.

The firefighter had to be extricated from the heavily damaged firetruck before he was airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans.

The fire district thanked the doctors at UMC, its fellow fire districts and citizens who sent prayers and well wishes for the injured firefighter.
