Civil courts building reopening delayed again

A suspicious fire damaged the first floor of the building on February 12.

NEW ORLEANS — The opening of the Orleans Parish Civil District Courts building has been delayed.

Court officials had said the building would reopen on Ash Wednesday, but then they pushed it back to Monday, February 27.

A suspicious fire damaged the first floor of the building on February 12.

Officials say they are unsure when the building will reopen and that it needs more environmental and safety work.

"In the meantime, we ask the public to please go to the Court’s website www.orleanscivildistrictcourt.org for the latest updates including the latest closure order which provides additional information about the ongoing operations of the Court and related offices. Parties should check the Division or Section web page where a case may be assigned for updated information," Public information officer Walt Pierce said.
