NEW ORLEANS — A man was killed in a St. Bernard neighborhood shooting Tuesday night, a release from the New Orleans Police Department's Public Affairs Divison said.

Around 8:40 p.m., police officers with NOPD's Third District went to Foy and Gibson streets, and when they arrived, they found a man on the floor of an apartment, wounded by gunfire.

He died before he could be taken to a hospital for treatment.

After an autopsy, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will release the victim's name and the official cause of death.

As NOPD homicide investigators look for clues at the scene and talk to people to find out who killed the victim, how and why, the investigation into the killing is far from over, but police said they're willing to hear from people with information

NOPD Homicide Detective Eric Vilhelmsen is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-5300 with any information about the shooting.

Anyone willing to share information that can help police in the investigation can call CrimeStoppers at 504.822.1111 or toll-free 1.877.903.7867. If you're tip leads to and arrest you may be entitled to a reward. Tips to CrimeStoppers remain anonymous.
