Police sent to check on apartment find two shot to death inside

Both victims had multiple gun shot wounds.

NEW ORLEANS - Police were dispatched to the 13600 block of Granville Street in eastern New Orleans to check on the occupants of an apartment Friday morning.

When they arrived they found Louis Brooks, 25 and Diamonique Lewis, 26 lying on the floor.

Both victims had multiple gun shot wounds and were pronounced dead on the scene.

Their landlord, who did not want to give her name, said Lewis was from out of town and moved into the apartment not too long ago.

"I'm sorry this happened," she said. "I don't know what actually happened. But, right now, all I'm looking at is a bloody mess."

Police found the bodies around 3, Friday morning.

But, it's unclear when Brooks and Lewis were actually killed.

A next door neighbor said he heard gunshots around 10:30, Thursday night.

"I stay here in my room," Jose Cabrara said. "I heard two times, boom, boom."

Another neighbor said shortly after the shooting, he saw two men run into the school yard across the street. He said one of them was wearing a red and blue shirt

The murders happened just across the street from Einstein Charter School. The motive for the shooting is also unclear.

It appears at least one of the victims was killed in the living room. It also appears the intruder turned the contents in the apartment upside down.

"It sounds like it's been an invasion," the landlord said. "What they were looking for, I really, really don't know."

Police are still in the process of gathering evidence and information.

They have not named any suspects in the case.
