NEW ORLEANS — A woman was arrested in the investigation of a fight that turned into a homicide the New Orleans Police Department said.
The NOPD arrested Nayiondra A. Woolridge, 33, in the homicide investigation stemming from a planned fight between Brittany Ussin, 25, and another woman that ended with Ussin being fatally shot. It happened on April 22 at a park in the 300 block of Ptolemy Street. Cellphone video of the brawl circulated on social media.
A social media dispute led to Ussin meeting near McDonough Park to fight in an encounter that eventually led to her death when a shot was fired.
The NOPD said in a report, “Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives determined Wooldridge to be the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Wooldridge on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.”
On Wednesday, NOPD officers located and arrested Woolridge at a home. Wooldridge was booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
