Man disguised as Waffle House employee steals $300 while working shift

Police say he didn't actually work at Waffle House and just put on the uniform to get close to the cash register

Police are searching for a man who walked into a Waffle House, disguised himself as an employee, and then stole hundreds of dollars from the register while taking orders and preparing food.

According to NOPD, Tyrone Hamburg walked in the Waffle House on Elysian Fields around 8 p.m. on Feb. 12, put on a uniform and started working, despite not being an employee.

According to a Waffle House spokesperson, it’s normal for employees to work at different locations and fill in for employees during busy shifts, so seeing someone that employees didn’t recognize wasn’t unusual.

Hamburg then allegedly stole $300 from the register while he was taking orders and prepping food.

Anyone with information on Hamburg’s location is asked to call any Third District detective at 504-658-6030 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 504-822-1111 and toll-free at 1-877-903-7867.
