Saints send injured chain crew member care package

Piazza's care package included a signed No. 41 Alvin Kamara jersey and a signed football with “Get well” wishes.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints sent the chain crew member who was injured at the Lions games a care package, according to our partners at The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate.

NOLA.com sports columnist Jeff Duncan spoke with Nick Piazza over the phone about his injury.

“I never thought anything like this would happen to me,” Piazza told Duncan.

Nick Piazza was injured during an in-game collision with Saints running back Alvin Kamara in the second quarter of the Saints' eventual 33-28 loss to the Lions (9-3).

Duncan says Piazza's care package included a signed No. 41 Alvin Kamara jersey and signed football with “Get well” wishes.

Piazza, a Harvey native, tore two ligaments, fractured his fibula, and has cartilage damage. He's scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner.

The Saints (5-7) host the second of a three-game homestand on Sunday with the visiting Carolina Panthers (1-11), followed by the New York Giants (4-8) on Dec. 17.
