INDIANAPOLIS — Just hours after the Indiana Fever began selling single-game tickets for the upcoming season, the "Caitlin Clark Effect" is in full swing.
On Thursday, the team announced a plan to sell tickets to two games each day for 10 days, with some seats costing as little as $10. Within hours of the first tickets going on sale Friday at 4 p.m. - for the May 20 game against Connecticut and the May 28 game against Los Angeles - most of the available tickets had been sold.
While some tickets are still available for $20 or $40 – the price set by the team for seats in the 200 level of Gainbridge Fieldhouse – the secondary ticket market is already showing the impact Clark will have on attendance in Indianapolis.
"Verified resale tickets" on the Fever's Ticketmaster site are already listed for sale above - and in some cases, well above - face value for the first two games available for sale. In fact, two seats in Section 210, Row 19 – five rows from the top of the arena – for the game against Los Angeles are currently listed for $500 each.
And that's before fees.
And before Clark is even officially a member of the Fever.
The Iowa superstar announced her intention to enter the April 15 WNBA draft Feb. 29 and while the Fever hasn't directly said they'll draft her with their No. 1 overall pick, all signs point to Clark coming to Indy.
The Fever began promoting season ticket packages moments after Clark's announcement. A week later, Clark signed an endorsement deal with Gainbridge, the namesake of the Fever's home arena.
The Caitlin Clark effect isn't limited to Indianapolis.
Also Friday, the two-time defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces announced their July 2 game against the Fever would move from the 12,000-seat Michelob Ultra Arena to T-Mobile Arena, which seats 18,000 for basketball and up to 20,000 fans.
The Fever open the regular season May 14 in Connecticut, with their home opener coming two nights later against the New York Liberty on May 16.
