HAMMOND, La. —
Motorists were stuck in a 2-mile gridlock Monday morning on the westbound I-12 near Hammond after a crash.
The crash was reported just before 5:30 a.m. and traffic buildup grew for at least an hour. Authorities tweeted 40 minutes later that there was a two-mile backup of cars in the westbound lanes of I-12.
Motorists were encouraged by DOTD to use alternate routes if they were not already on the freeway.
Drivers stuck on the freeway were being diverted onto the northbound I-55 near the crash.
Later Monday morning, authorities reopened the freeway.
