Flash Flood Warning for Southshore until 3:45 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS — The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a flash flood warning for parts of the Southshore until 3:45 p.m. on Monday.

The flash flood warning includes north central Jefferson, southwestern Orleans, northwestern Plaquemines and west central St. Bernard parishes.

Forecasters say as of 1:54 p.m., Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain in the area. Up to three inches of rain has already fallen and an additional three inches of rain are possible. The NWS said up to three inches of rain could fall within one hour.

“Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly,” the NWS alert said.

Some areas that could see flash flooding include: New Orleans, Timberlane, Belle Chasse, Harvey, Marrero, Chalmette, Avondale, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Jean Lafitte, Terrytown, Woodmere, Estelle, Meraux, Poydras, Violet, Bridge City, Lafitte and Waggaman.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
