Victims in Terrebonne Parish double-homicide identified as husband and wife

A married couple were gunned down in the front yard of their home in Gray, La., following a parade Friday night.

GRAY, La. — Crime scene tape was still at the scene Monday on Willowdale Drive in Gray where Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet says a man and woman were gunned down in their front yard.

“Two people going home,” said Sheriff Soignet during a news conference Monday afternoon.

The sheriff says the shooting happened late Friday night, just before midnight, after the victims returned home from catching the Krewe of Hercules parade in Houma. Sheriff Soignet says as they were walking to the front door someone started shooting.

“We discovered several shell casings so there were multiple shots fired,” said Sheriff Soignet.

Family members at the scene Monday didn’t want to speak on camera but told WWL Louisiana the victims were a husband and wife. They say they just want to know who killed them and why. So do detectives.

“My heart and prayers go out to that family. They’re victims that are left behind,” said Sheriff Soignet. “To me, my drive is to make sure that family gets justice.”

Sheriff Soignet says his office is working to determine whether the double homicide was targeted or random. Either way, the sheriff’s office says the victims were viciously gunned down.

“These violent acts, nothing can really surprise you when things happen like this,” said Sheriff Soignet.

The sheriff says the killings in Gray had nothing to do with the parade itself, or any Mardi Gras celebrations. While deputies will be out patrolling the remaining parades, his detectives will be working to solve this case.

“We want people to feel that it can be safe and have a good Mardi Gras season, but we’re going to tireless work on this and we’re not going to stop until we get it figured out,” said Sheriff Soignet.

Some information has come in, but not enough. With help from the public and dedicated resources, the sheriff hopes figuring it out will happen quickly. So far no suspects have been identified. If you know anything about this shooting, call the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
