Tangipahoa Parish announces closures due to severe weather

Damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and a risk of tornado activity is possible.

AMITE CITY, La. — All Tangipahoa Parish offices will close at noon on Monday in anticipation of severe weather forecast for the afternoon and into the overnight hours.

The parish landfill will remain open.

Parish President Robby Miller said the National Weather Service advised that there are two lines of severe weather expected to impact our area. The first is forecast for early afternoon, to be followed by a second round of severe weather after dark.

WWL Louisiana's severe weather forecast mirrors that of the NWS in anticipating possible damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and a risk of tornado activity. Miller encouraged residents to take precautions by securing  any lightweight yard items and ensuring that storm drains are clear of debris.

Miller said the inaugural ceremony scheduled for the Tangipahoa Parish President and Parish Council will go on as planned at 3 p.m. at the Florida Parishes Arena Event Center on Monday, as well as the Parish Council meeting set for 5:30 p.m.
