Report: Dave Aranda not expected to leave LSU for UNLV

Aranda is the highest-paid assistant coach in college football, earning $2.5 million a year.

BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda was reportedly in negotiations to become UNLV's new head football coach but now is no longer expected to leave.

According to an ESPN report, UNLV and Aranda had "initial talks" but no job offer was made. Earlier this week, Sports Illustrated reported that both sides were in serious talks about the head coaching gig.

UNLV is looking to raise the profile of its football program with the Rebels set to begin playing home games in a new stadium being built for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, who are moving to Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Review Journal, citing a source close to the head coaching search, said that the school had not offered the job to anyone. ESPN's Adam Rittenberg reports that Oregon offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo remains a strong candidate for the job.

Aranda is the highest-paid assistant coach in college football, earning $2.5 million a year.
