Video shows suspected 77-year-old's killer leaving murder scene

Security video shows the moment a hooded figure hops a fence and leaves the scene where an elderly man had just been shot to death.

NEW ORLEANS — Detectives have released video of the person they believe went into a home near the Fairgrounds and shot an elderly man to death in December.

Security footage from the morning of December 16 shows a hooded suspect jump a fence to flee from the 1700 block of N. Dupre Street, moments after 77-year-old Keithroy Ambrose was killed on the second floor of a home nearby.

New Orleans Police officials believe this person, seen in a gray sweatshirt and dark pants, may have shot Ambrose several times in his bathroom. A motive for the killing is still under investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the suspect or has information on the murder is encouraged to call NOPD homicide detectives at 504-658-5300.

No further information from police was immediately available.

According to preliminary NOPD reports from Dec. 16, 2019, first responders found Ambrose inside his home around 10:15 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morgan Clevenger, the president of the Fairgrounds Triangle Neighborhood Association, said Ambrose was "a well known and well loved neighbor."

"A community elder, he and his family have lived in the Fairgrounds Triangle for 30 years," Clevenger said in a post on Nextdoor. "The tragic loss of this gentleman is devastating to his family, community and the City of New Orleans."
