Sandbag sites: Parish by parish

Some local parishes and city governments are making sandbags available. Here is the list we currently have.

With yet another hurricane bearing down on Louisiana, several parishes and local governments are offering sandbags to residents. Here is the list we have so far. If you know of a place or parish where sandbags are being given out, please email 'webteam@wwltv.com' and we will add it to our list.

Hurricane Zeta is the seventh named storm to have south Louisiana in its cone of uncertainty and possibly the fifth to make a landfall in the state.

Hurricane and tropical storm watches are likely to be issued Monday night or Tuesday morning. '

Here is the parish-by-parish breakdown for sandbags.

Orleans

In partnership with the New Orleans City Council, the City of New Orleans will provide sandbags on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (or until supplies last) at the following locations:  

  • Arthur Monday Center, 1111 Newton St. 
  • Dryades YMCA, 2220 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. 
  • Saint Maria Goretti Church, 7300 Crowder Blvd. 
  • NOFD Engine 8, Desire and Law Streets

Plaquemines

Starting today, October 27, 2020, at 12 PM Noon parish-wide sandbag locations will be open. See below for sandbag locations. Residents should bring their own shovels.10 bags max. Bags will be provided. :  

  • Plaquemines Parish Government Complex, PROWM Building (333 F. Edward Hebert Blvd, Belle Chasse, LA 70037)
  • Port Sulphur YMCA, 278 Civic Drive, Port Sulphur, LA 70083   
  • Buras YMCA, 36342 Hwy 11, Buras, LA 70041  
  • Boothville Area across from Boothville-Venice Elementary School  
  • Davant Community Center, 15577 Hwy 15, Braithwaite, LA 70040  
  • Braithwaite Auditorium, 1253 LA-39, Braithwaite, LA 70040  

St. Charles

All sandbag locations will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, by noon and parish officials will be checking for IDs. Residents should only take what they need and bring their own shovels.

St. James

Five self-service sandbag locations will open at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27 for St. James Parish residents. Sand and bags will be available. Please bring a shovel.

St. John the Baptist

Open 10 a.m. Tuesday as long as weather permits.

St. Tammany

Sandbags will be available at six locations on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. People are asked to bring their own shovels. There will be help for the elderly or infirmed.

  • The Old Levee District Site - 61134 Military Road (Hwy 190) Slidell, La.

  • Covington Barn - 1305 N. Florida Street, Covington
